My practise as a counsellor has developed from the skills I have gained through twenty years of employment as a qualified nurse, and sixteen years of practise in social and therapeutic work settings. Also, experiencing personal loss and tradgedy in my own life has enhanced my understanding of the fragility of the human mind, and the support needed to recover from trauma. My career changes therefore have been as a result of my need to heal others who are currently suffering from emotional pain.Having the skills to build positive relationships with clients, and my values of respect for those who are suffering allows me to assess what is causing their pain and form a plan of agreement of work with them I am skilled therefore in motivating those who are suffering with depression, anxiety, stress, low self esteem move forward through individual work sessions. My recent work to develop an online service has been from a desire to allow those who cannot access other forms of support either due to disability, illness, work restrictions, different locations, gain a confidential service. I  can therefore offer  therapeutic work  through encrypted  e mails, skype video sessions, as well as some opportunity for face to face sessions.www.lightcounselling.com

Training, Qualifications and Experience

My previous career as a trained nurse has formed the basis of my counselling skills, and my understanding of how physical illnesses can impact on the functioning of the human mind. Further training led me to achieve my” Diploma in Social Work” in 1996 and practise as a qualified social worker encouraged me to pursue counselling qualifications. In 1999 I achieved my Certificate in Counselling, and in 2001 I gained my “Diploma in Counselling”Further practise with service users in private/voluntary work settings, led to me gaining employment as a therapeutic social worker in [2005].  in a post abuse project. Helping children/young people and adults to move on with their life has been a rewarding and motivating experience. This work has also led to further academic study to gain my” Post Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Work with children/young people” in [2008], and  increased my skills of working with vulnerable adults and carers.
