‘Accredited Registration’ via the Professional Standards Authority – formerly the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence – is the present government’s preferred form of regulation for professions not currently regulated by statute, including counselling & psychotherapy. Accredited Registration replaces the previous government’s plan to bring about compulsory regulation of individual counsellors and psychotherapists via the Health Professions Council. Two key differences are that new AR/PSA scheme is voluntary, and it will involve assessment/approval of the governance processes of counselling & psychotherapy organisations rather than individual therapists.

UKAHPP has been in dialogue with PSA, and continues to be.
