This category of Senior Practitioner (SP) is intended for those members approaching UK retirement age who may be winding down their practice and/or clinical hours, or those members who, from health or personal reasons that impinge on their professional lives, may have to reduce their practice and workload. It is a category intended to acknowledge this stage where members may be active still in research, teaching or other areas involving Humanistic practice and philosophy, and have accrued considerable experience in this field.

Senior Practitioners – and Retired Senior Practitioners – have full voting rights and are eligible for taking office or sitting on the Board or Committees.  Senior Practitioners who are still in practice pay a reduced current annual fee for Full membership (which, in 2013, is £200 – or £215 if UKCP-registered via UKAHPP).  If a Senior Practitioner is fully retired from practice, the annual fee is £15.* A Senior Practitioner Retired must still abide by the Code of Ethical Principles and the Code of Practice of UKAHPP and is accountable for their conduct in the same way as a full member.

The category of Retired Senior Practitioner is defined as a Senior Practitioner who is no longer in clinical/therapeutic practice with clients, whether with individuals, couples or groups, nor takes supervision of other practitioners, and only facilitates groups for training and educative purposes..

The criteria for Senior Practitioner are:

  • Applicants must be in good standing with UKAHPP and will continue to be bound by the ethical guidelines and procedures
  • An applicant must have been accredited and/or an Affiliate Member for 15 years with UKAHPP or reached UK retirement age and can affirm in writing that they are winding down their practice.
  • If still in practice a yearly statement evidencing appropriate levels of supervision, CPD, together with insurance and a therapeutic executor will still be required
  • 5 yearly renewal of accreditation will still be applicable if the SP is in practice
  • A Senior Practitioner working with fewer than 6 clients per week may pay a reduced annual membership fee upon application to the Membership and Accreditation Committee.
  • On retirement the Senior Practitioner will be designated the title on the UKAHPP website of SP: Retired
